Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans trailer

If you haven't seen it yet, but this is trailer for the new Werner Herzog film Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, a loose remake of the original Bad Lieutenant starring Harvey Keitel. This is obviously starring hack/tic machine Nicolas Cage. I feel so bad for saying this, because I love and revere Herzog so much, but this looks like this could be worse than Transformers 2. And the worst part is that it's not all of Cage's fault, botching lines and giving us the worst attempt at a southern accent, but it's the fault of Herzog too. His trademark off-beat surrealism, especially that in his 1978 classic Stroszek, is being used in this film, and what can I say, it looks like it's not working. Ditto to the screenwriter for coming up with lines like "You don't have a lucky crack pipe?" This looks like a film that even Roger Ebert can't behind, and we all know how much he loves Herzog and Cage.

The negatives: A big blotch on Herzog's stellar record. Not only that, but a blotch on the Bad Lieutenant name, and how Hollywood has been recently trying to build the Herzog name in the States.

The positive: Will this be the film that will finally kill the career of Nic Cage?
